The Snake Pit has been a local landmark for over 138 years. Located at the fork of the Coeur d’Alene River, it has served as a boom-town bar, railroad layover, hotel, house of ill repute and starting point for loggers and miners of yesteryear.

Over the years, our customers have added their own pieces of history to The Snake Pit by contributing unique items and memorabilia for display. Please take a look around and let our walls tell the story!

Coming to us from Eureka Springs, Arkansas:

The Lark and the Loon are a songwriting duo consisting of husband/wife team Jeff Rolfzen and Rocky Steen-Rolfzen. The two bring their distinct writing styles The Lark and the Loon are a husband and wife songwriting duo. Roots music by simple definition their writing and song choices traverse the Americana idea in what they call an exploration of the etymology of American music. Sea shanties, Irish dance tunes, Delta and Piedmont blues, jazz, and country all weave together under the calm direction of their showmanship and love of wordplay. In 2014 they moved to a semi-remote location in the Ozark mountains to better position themselves for traveling the country. When at home they write, work the rocky soil, and hike the natural beauty of the area soaking in the peace and quiet before their next venture. Their most recent album entitled “2” was recorded in New Orleans and features the songwriters a their best across 12 duets as they weave between urban motifs and the joys and feelings of love and friendship. It was recorded just 6 weeks after their last record “Homestead Hands” which received critical acclaim for its capture of rural life, and historic undertones.

Crafting upbeat and cruisy arrangements contrasted by darker lyrical themes, Racket Man pulls from influences like Prefab Sprout, Toro y Moi, and Big Star to create their own brand of Indie Pop. Formed during 2017, the band released their debut self-titled EP that December. Since their formation, the band has worked hard to blend influences together into a single project with "Recreational Magic" being the groups most cohesive work yet. Embracing a diligent DIY mentality, the band stays steadfast in their quest to further their ambitions. Racket Man is Tyler Elwing (Synth, Vox), Chris Seaman (Bass), Vince Silvestro (Drums) and Tommy Marx (Guitar, Vox).

“This Ohio [band] creates blissed out sonic soundscapes drenched in gloriously golden reverberations all manifested through catchy melodies, ambient hued stylings and addictive hook-laden guitar structures.” - Primal Music Blog - Dublin, Ireland

“Racket Man craft a dreamy vein of rock fit for serenely watching the clouds pass by…” - Mike Mineo of Obscure Sound - New York

“When you name your band Racket Man, you basically have two choices: You can be a Spandex-clad hair-metal outfit, or you can be a soft-rocking throwback to the ’70s that makes quirky, endearing videos based around rollerblading. Lucky for all concerned...these Cleveland kooks are in the latter category...” - Darryl Sterdan - Winnipeg, Manitoba
